Hudson Falls was founded in 1810 and was originally called Sandy Hill. Sandy Hill was a small town, with a small amount of people traveling through, trade and industry until the 1830's when the Glens Falls Feeder Canal was opened. Sandy Hill was growing in manufacturing with the opening of the Feeder Canal, with many new mills opening producing lumber for a variety of items.
In 1910 the name of the town was changed to Hudson Falls as a result of the annual village election. The name change was in hopes of increasing tourism, with travelers coming to see the Baker's Falls, but unfortunately the town never saw the increase they were hoping.
